Hello All,
I have a 1996 Australian Delivered Ford Explorer 4x4.
I am a bit of a novice when it comes to mechanical things and this is the first turbo setup I have ever attempted so please forgive me if the incorrect terminology is used.
I fitted a remote mounted turbo set up very similar to STS remote mount set ups.
The problem I am having is sometimes when I really accelerate hard or put the engine under decent load and boost, the engine just looses power, boost stays up but rpms stop climbing and the car slows down. If you back off to quarter throttle (or less) it regains power and starts pulling hard.
The ECU is still standard I do have a 7th injector plumbed in to the throttle body. The injector turns on at about 3psi.
I think loss of power is the ECU being safe, it’s like it completely retards the timing, as if it is sensing knocks or pinging.
It only really happens in near full throttle accelerating.
The set up was done on a budget and the perfect turbo size didn't get used so it is a laggy turbo set up and full boost (7.5psi) is rarely reached.
It obviously needs some sort of tuning solution but over here is Aus proper ecu tuning is expensive and hard to find someone that can do it.
If anyone has got any ideas or thoughts on what the exact problem is and possible ways to sort it out I would love to hear them.

This is a video of a gtech run that I recently did.
It did 2 runs 0-100kph (0-62mph) in less than 8 seconds.
It was done at just over half throttle to avoid the power loss.

I really need to sort it out, even driving (only seeing 3-5psi) it gently the power increase is really surprising and I really want to see what it goes like when all is working how it should.
Thanks in advance.
Andrew

P.s I will try and post some pictures of the Explorer later today
