First of all, HELLO!.
I own a '96 Explorer XLT Control Trac, with the 4R55E transmission. When i bought it, the gearbox wouldn't go into 4th. I had no error codes, and no lights up. I also had a bump/clang feeling in the middle of the car, at constant speeds, most of all around 40-60 mph.
I took down the tranny, applyed the overhaul kit, changed fluid and filter, and also a pinion that was damaged (i suppose it was the 2nd gear pinion, but not shure).
Now, i still have that bump, at the same speeds. Plus, when i drive a long time, sometimes the O/D OFF lights starts to blink, and the tranny shifts harder. But if i stop the engine, it runs ok. The O/D OFF light blinks only at long trips. While driving in town, it never comes up.
The ump is always there.
The guys at the ford shop, used the scan tool and got nothing. I did the sw update, and still bumping. They monitored the gearbox shifting, while driving, and sayd it's not the tranny. The told me to change the spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, air filter. I did it, and no change. The bump is still there (it feels like an engine cut-off).
At first, when i put the car into AUTO 4WD or 4WD, the bump was gone (drove like this for about 2 months). But noe, it's starting to feel even in AUTO 4WD mode. So, what is it?
From what i read here, it could be the torque converter, or the solenoid. But i have no error codes. I suppose if it were the solenoid, it would have generated error codes right? So, i also read thatit could be the fuel pump. The guy at ford said that the pump pressure is at the lower limit (according to the scan tool), but he said that he doesn't guarantee tha changing the fuel pump will solve the problem. There is a small rpm drop-down while idleing, but it's not a misfire - the guy scanned and measured everything related to engine missfire.
Changing the TC may help? Or could it be useful to change the valve body, along with the solenoids?
Please help!! I really like this car. THX :fire:
