96 vacuum diff in 97 mounty

ive searched the threads but it looks to me like nobody has replaced a regular 97 ish front diff with a vacuum center diconnect diff. my question is you guys think i could just lock the vacc diff in live 4wd mode and swap it in? i have FREE front diff out of my parts explorer if i can...

ps. my bearings are shot in mine and will prolly set it aside for a more sunny day...(4.88 setup?)

I seem to recall that it will not fit due to the oilpan??? Maybe it was a crossmember?
I see by your signature that you have a body lift, but I believe that you would need to have a suspension lift for it to fit.
I could also have a defective memory.

yea i have the 4'' suspension too... im just worried about the 4wd not working if the vac disco pops into free spin of something
