Need some help figuring out how to reprogram FOB's for my 96 4x4 XL Explorer. I lost the original FOB for it and bought a couple replacements. Now, I've done searches online on how to reprogram them but it's confusing as I've seen instructions for reprogramming requiring the key to be turned off and on (ending with on) 5, 6, and 8 times (yes drivers door was opened after closing and lock cycled to open. I've tried with the doors open and closed). So far nothing has worked. My Explorer seems to have a type of factory immobilizer (anti-theft?) in it too where the vehicle wouldn't start unless the open button on the FOB is pressed first, then it'll start. I can start it right now by jumping the starter solenoid from the battery but this is really inconvenient, and if I plan on selling it, I can't sell it like this. I've tried looking in the manual but no success there. I've tried several Google searches but nothing beyond what I already know.
Has anyone else come across this, and what did you do to solve this?
