It's located behind the right (passenger) rear quarter panel approximately right over the wheel hump. When you see what's involved to remove that panel you'll agree it's a pain!

ford sound sux!

man i love my truck but the freaking sound system just blows, i think im just gonna run new cables from the HU to the speakers i guess it would be faster... or not,.,.,., i would have to take the freaking door panels off omg!!!!!!1  aggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

x

im pretty sure the performance of my new HU its being greatly reduced by the crappy amp that came stock with the truck, from what i have read the stock amp has 20 watts and my Sony HU has 52x4  :frustrate

Then bypass the amp. Or better still rewire the door speakers. Are the door speakers factory? I wouldn't bother bypassing if they are. They are low wattage, designed to work with the low output of the factory amp.

well

i have two 12's so im not worried about putting too much base on the factory 6x8 speakers i'v got plenty of base but the hights and mids are just not enough coming from the 4- 6x8, im gonna replace this soon i want to get some pioneers or infinitys not to sure jet i could go with sonys but im not sure about the performance of them anyways im gonna rewire the whole things this weekend hopefully,
I can change the settings on my HU to the point of not having any base on the main four speakers so its pretty sweet... :exp: ;)

I wasn't really talking about bass, but the factory speakers are muddy, and low output. A lot of members like the Pioneers, but I'd go listen to all the speakers in your price range.

speakers

what is the bigest size i can fit in my x 5x8? :exp:

They are 5x7/6x8. Another option is to get the plastic adapter and run a 5 1/4 round. They are generally cheaper since they aren't made specifically for a Ford vehicle. Round speakers tend to sound better as well.

Your deck is 52x4... peak. Bet dollar to dime (since it's a sony), that it's only doing 17-19.5w RMS... no better than the stock amp... If it's the JBL sound system, i think they sound great. The stock non-premium sound though, yeek, girlfriend has an escort, put in a sony deck before i knew better, turned on the "loud" function, and pop goes all the stock speakers. :)

Theres a lot more to sound quality than wattage. The stocker setup isn't a clean signal.

a good percentage of people would disagree with that statement, but they also could care less. :) The stock setups in fords have been problematic since they introduced their "digital" decks. Talked to a kid today who refused to get rid of his stock deck because he "liked the features"... even though it was buzzing like a hive of bees.

19 watts rms?

i paid about 300 for my radio they sell it at best buy for about 350 here is the link so you can take a look at it http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...28735&productCategoryId=cat03066&type=product
I think it sounds way better than the factory amp even with the stock speakers, btw it has (23 watts rms) per chanel so its pretty loud.
I didnt have the JBL premium radio in my truck, I had the normal radio with the 6 cd changer wich im gonna hook up to my HU later on.
Any idea on the pryce for the pioneers 6x8 speakers?

Thats what I did. It took me about 4 hours but the difference in sound was incredible and I only have 45x4 watt aiwa H/U that cost $140 :D

You can get a wire to bypass the stock amp and leave all the stock wiring in place. I put one in my '92, it requires no cutting or wire splicing. That factory amp sounds like crap compaired to my JVC. Be careful with stock speakers and addding a huge amp and subs. Listen to your system with the subs off to make sure you aren't cranking the stock speakers into distortion. You'll blow the stock speakers in no time at all. Don't worry about compairing watts to watts, you can't. It is distortion that usually blows speakers.

I'm planning to cut the doors to fit 6 1/2's in the 6x8 holes. I did it in my Cougar and it worked fine. I used hard board to mount between the car and the speaker.

im gonna wire the speakers from the HU im not even gonna bother taking the factory amp off the car i dont wanna take the whole car appart to get it out, the factory AMP works with a LOW imput as if it were RCA imputs, i'v got my HU plugged in directly into it, putting a HUGGE load on it, this is one of the reazons it sounds like crap, my HU has a function that lets me control the bass on the speakers and on the subs i got on the back, i can take all the bass off the 4 speakers and load it to the subs this way i wont blow them up any time soon, i will replace the factry speakers later on :exp:
