Hi, i'm kind of new here. Having a bit of a problem keeping my truck running without dying. So I rebuilt a 1997 Ranger 4.0 OHV and replaced everything but the piston, rings, crankshaft and journal bearings etc etc. When I replaced the camshaft strut tower I used the alignment tool and what not so I know it was installed correctly. My problem is i'm still having to use the 94 PCM and noticed on the 94 4.0 that came out of the truck that it has a different camshaft synchro on it and its at 12:00 looking at the truck, the 97 is pointing at about 11:00. the wires were also flipped but had the same color wires. My question is, since im still using the 94 PCM does the camshaft sync have to be pointing at the same direction as the 94 sync. Do I need to modify any wires going to the PCM or should I just tream the block as a 94. My truck will not stay at idle, it just dies. I can give it gas but it has loss of power and backfires.
Thank you or any help or instruction, it is much obliged as ive been without a ride for a couple months and im starting to go a little stir crazy.
Thanks again, Much love,
Matthew
