What would cause my explorer to creep forward in park?
I just purchased this suv last friday. I parked it on a soft
slope with the front end facing down the slope. Anywho I
got up this morning and the explorer was about six feet
forward down the slope. I can start the engine fine in park.
Even with the e brake on it still creeps forward. :exp:

Is the front driveshaft taken out? If it is, then it will creep. I have the fron d/s taken out on mine and I have to be carful not to park on hill/slants because she gets a rolling away in no time!

I don't think my front drive shaft is taken off or not.
The gear selector needle is even with all gears too.
I have never seen anything like this before ever lol.
Even with the e brake it rolls? wow haha :thumbdwn:

has the e-brake ever worked? In mine it doesnt work either. lol. but check to see if the front d/s in in or not. If the front d/s is in, then it could be what Brooklynbay said...

When an AWD starts creeping, that points to transfer case problems. Very small chance this has anything to do with the transmission. Check to see if the front driveshaft is there first. If it is there, then something is going on with the transfer case.

And apparently your e-brake doesn't work. The second gen e-brakes are not known for their reliability or effectiveness.

If the viscous coupling in the t-case is really gone, it might do that too.

It makes a semi loud clunk noise from R to D
Shifts smooth in all gears though.

I don't know..for some reason its not clunking now between R & D
But I just noticed that my parking brake works for the car to roll
back but going forward the parking brake doesnt stop it from rolling.

Not if both driveshafts are in place and the rest of the driveline is intact. Even if there was NO VC, it would not roll in park (again, provided the driveline is intact).

Ditto on both counts.

Your parking brakes obviously need some TLC.

The first thing I'd do to troubleshoot it is figure out what's moving. Intentionally park on an incline with the wheels against a stop or chock. Crawl underneath and mark the lowest point on both the front and rear driveshafts. Remove the chock and let it creep until the tires have gone about 1/2 revolution. Chock the tires and see what's moved. BOTH driveshafts should have moved an equal amount and the marks should still be lined-up with each other. (They may not be on the bottom anymore). If they're off, then either the front or rear driveline has got an issue, allowing it to creep in park.
