- 98 5.0 AWD XLT
Hey everybody!
I'm looking at purchasing the title vehicle to finally replace my 98 5.0 AWD that was totalled (damn kids and their Toyota pickups), and was wondering what are the most common issues to look for in these Explorers.
I want a true 4x4 w/low range.
It has 135k miles on it and the current owners are friends of the family. They said they have already replaced the fuel pump and had the tranny tailshaft rebuilt w/new bearings.
It drives well, shifts well, and doesn't seem to have any major issues. There is a sound from under the hood at idle that kind of sounds like tapping on an exhaust pipe. Someone told me this could be a water pump.
Sorry for the long post, but I want this truck to be worthy of a little off-roading. Thanks.
PS: Let me know if you recommend just getting another 5.0, I won't be hard to convince.
