I have a 97 Explorer, Eddie Bauer Edition, with 260,000 miles. Once in a while it won't start. It turns over great but won't catch to start. It will start when I spray ether in the intake. I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, and mass air flow sensor. I have checked the relays. I am at a loss. I have a gun and one bullet. It's either the car mor me. Please help!

Sometimes, some of the second gen X's have a problem with sticking relays. When the relay for your fuel pump sticks, the engine will crank, but otherwise act as if it is totally out of gas. Locate the relay in the engine compartment's Power Distribution box. (The one one the driver's side with all the fuses.) There are 3 large relays. Use your owners manual to determine which one os for your fuel system. When on the road and you have the no-start issue, gentle tap the relay and try again. OR, swap it with another relay of the same type. If you get a start, then you know that you should replace the relay ASAP.
