97 instrument panel lights.

Half the instrument panel lights are out on my 97 xlt. Anyone know if I can lift the panel out by unscrewing the screws at the top of instrument hood, and reaching the instrument lights easily from there? Thanks for the input. Bob

welcome! sadly its not that easy. heres what ya gotta do. been a while, so i forget the exact order. take off parking brake bracket, then the bottom plastic kick panel, then the metal plate under the steering column. I think the radio bezel has to go to. then the 3 bolts you referred to are removed, followed by 2 more on the bottom side. little bit of a process but its doable in an hour or so.
