Gentlemen:
Newby to the site and have been looking around the threads. I am truly impressed with all of the knowledge present.
Was hoping that I could gain some insight to a problem I am having with my sport. Initial symptom was an odd "grind" when going from park to reverse. Immediate shift to neutral stopped the noise. Reverse then worked normally. This occurred for some time and was sporadic.
I parked the truck after the same noise appeared when letting off the gas at 60 mph. Immediate shift to nuetral eliminated the noise, putting it back in gear at 10 mph resulted in normal driving. Seemed like the transmission was "letting go". I know it is not good but the fluid in either the transmission or transfer case have not been changed in, oh, about 150,000 miles.
There was no slipping, no grinding in any other instance. Three Trans shops were stumped but assumed that a new transmission and transfer case were in needed for a small fee of $4000. Kinda steep for a truck that has 234,000 miles.
But I still would like to fix it. Have determined that the transfer case was "stuck" between 2WD and 4WD. Shift motor is burned out, I think. Have gotten a new motor and replaced it last night, but it no longer has power. Switch in cab turns the dash lights on and off but nothing at the motor. Also, fuse 28, and 24 no longer have power to them with the key in ignition.
Sorry to be so long winded, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Hope everyone had a good Christmas and a good new year.
Thanks for your thoughts.
