Im getting a lean bank 1 and bank 2 on my 98 SOHC explorer engine. I also believe the guy who swapped this engine on my Ford Ranger did not change out the stock fuel pump on the truck. So basically I have a 98 SOHC explorer engine in a 2.3 liter ford ranger fuel tank/pump. Is the 2.3 ranger fuel pump compatible with the 98 SOHC engine ? What is the fuel pressure supposed to be comming out of the SOHC pump ? Could this be causing my lean bank 1 and bank2 codes?

Thanks

Giovanni

did you check the fuel pressure at the rails?

it is possible that the fuel pump is a lower pressure model. Depending on the type of injection system you have it could be the high pressure model (62PSI) this is the setup without the return line.

yes it could be responsible.
You can swap the pump for a returnless style unit or convert the 98 SOHC motor to use the 97 style fuel rail with the return style system

One other thing to point out is that if it does happen to be the return-less system there are many differences. This system has the FPR located in the tank with the pump. The Device on the rails that has a vacuum line is not a FPR it is a pulse modulator. It can be deceiving when you first look at it. Also this system only has one line coming from the tank (hence "return-less").

It is the only system (that I know of) that runs at this high 62psi pressure on the explorers. There is little in the way of documentation about this system. I had to piece together what I found from this site, and other sources.

But all this is null and void if you have the lower pressure return-less system. I think it runs at approx 40psi. Every manual references this system and you can readily find information on it.

I would start by checking the PSI
