98 4.0 x-vin ohv exhaust help

Have a question working on a project with 2 1998 Ford explorer 4.0 V6.
One is OHV (x-vin) 4x4 automatic xl, engine runs great but body is full of rust and is being put aside for future project.
I picked up another 1998 4.0 v6 4x4 xlt from South Carolina. It didn't have an engine but it is set up for sohc.

With a perfect ohv sitting around I decided to put it in the new truck.

The issue I'm running into is the exhaust.
What was on the truck wouldn't bolt to the engine. And I can't flippin find the y pipe that connects to the exhaust manifold for the 1998 ohv. I can't be the only one with this issue. Help!

I also can't find the Y-pipe listed for sale for my 98, which is strange.

However, on my departed 2000 model OHV, the Y-pipe actually had catalytic converters integrated into it. These are still for sale. I am not 100% sure if these fit the 98 but my guess is that it would.

And if I'm correct the 2000 is still in the 2nd gen bracket. So I'll have to look into that. Unfortunately I live in NY so emissions laws screw me on catt please prices

Your post is a little confusing, but I'll give it a shot

My memory was also bad so I had to go back and re-write this post to correct it!

OK - RE: 1998 X Engine "Y" Pipe

Look at the emissions information sticker in your engine compartment.

Does it say that your 1998 X-Engine EX is California Compliant?

If it does say it's CA Compliant, here's what yours should look like.

A "Y" pipe with no Cats, that bolts to two (2) cats inline.

The picture BELOW from the Rick Auto Catalog is flipped "bass ackwards."
The 3 bolt Flange should be forward, and the 2 bolt flange should be afterwards.

Yes, a federal emission 98 has a blank Y-pipe, and two cats behind the Y-pipe. On 2000 models (and possibly CA emissions 98 models), there are two cats welded into the Y-pipe, and two cats behind that (4 cats total!) My 2000 Sport was set up this way.
