98 Explorer Sport OD light flashes?

I just bought my first ford explorer. I got a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport 4x4. My transmission appears to be shifting fine and my overdrive does work, but my OD (overdrive) light flashes all the time and constantly blinks. Is this bad? Any ideas whats causing it or how I can fix it?

You need to have your explorer scanned for transmission trouble codes. The flashing o/d light is a indication of a problem. Your transmission is mainly electronic and as such requires that you scan the system to pinpoint a problem. Based on what I have read on the forum, you should not drive the vehicle for a very long time if the o/d light is flashing as this could lead to further damage to the transmission. When it happened to me I disconnected my battery for 1 hour and for me the problem has not reappeared. good luck.
