- 1998 explorer sport
Hi I have a 98 ford explorer sport (automatic & 4x4) (2 door). When coming home from work would rev up to 3-4 rmp before would shift to next gear. (kinda like it was popping into Neutral) stopped at lights, went to go and had no drive. Had 2 and 1. Got it home and realized didn't have reverse either and lost 1.checked the fluid seemed fine. Talked with a few people and was told to top the fluid up. Did this and now have 1 & 2 & D still no R. but to get 2 and D have to start in 1 and go up. once get to R and go from there back to D have nothing til go back to 1st and come up again. R isn't there at all, lights come on but nothing. not leaking from what can tell, and no warning when it went or making any kind of noise.
had been sitting for a couple months before topped up the fluid. hasn't been drive since lost the gears ( have CO truck and this one kept getting put on the back burner to get fixed). Anyone have any ideas? Talked to a garage and was told it could be the reverse seals, and would probably be looking at replacing or rebuilding tranny. Have heard horror stories about Tranny shops. was told 2000 for used tranny or more to rebuild. thanks
