Ok, so i have a 98 4.0 sohc explorer it was driving fine with 4wd and everything working fine. then my dad manged to blow up the transmission by going between netruel to drive with revs.

So we sent it down to the mechanics to have a replacement put in the had it for weeks got it together but it wouldn't select reverse so we payed more money and they put in another.

but now low will not engage and it vibrates at 2500 rpm. worst of all it feels to be slipping at 4k when the trans kicks down, it just wines and jumps to 4k it seems it happen above 50km/h.

basically it has no power when heavy accelerating is needed. we took it back to the mechanics and they brought it back saying its an engine problem or its hitting rev limit and all this crap.

so what do you guys think is wrong? is it a transmission problem or an engine problem? does anybody have any ideas?

i really need to get this fixed as the mechanics have mucked round for 4 months. really need some help

cheers jared.

Well from my understanding.
If you payed for a mechanic shop to fix you'r SUV and they turned it back over to you weeks later and charged you for it and it wasnt fixed they should keep it and repair the problem at no extra charge.

So takeing it back a second time and getting charged for something that you already paid them to do and didnt is illegal and you should consider talking to a lawyer and possibly your insurance company.

They are a licensed mechanic shop and when paid to do a service when the items are returned to the owner and charged for it not fixed there doing it intentionaly and is a criminal offense.

This would mean one of a few things.

A. They kept it and did nothing to it and charged you for it.
B. They installed it and didnt test it selling you a falty item.
C. There wanting to rip you off by makeing ou buy more than you need.

If it stops at 4k rpm it sounds like it could be a vacume line somewhere to me.
If an automatic trans it is possible theres a vacume line on the trans for overdrive and its not connected or stopped up or the trans you was sold is a certified POS.
