My neighbor has a 99 4x4 4.0 ranger. His check engine light came on and the truck was running really rough, shudder under acceleration from a stop until about 15mph goes away, then comes back around 40.

We had code p0303, misfire in cylinder 3. We decided to replace all plugs and wires. As we took the plug wires off the coil, 1 by 1, the coil support for cylinder 3 was broken. We replaced the coil as well.

Replaced fuel fiilter, it was nasty, brown very dirty gas came out, had lots of sediment in it.

Fired it up, no codes but same shudder problem. Anybody have any ideas? I retraced my steps at least 4 times. Firing order is correct. Any help would be awesome.

Also, twice in the last 15,000 miles he has had a mechanic replace the plugs, wires, and the #3 fuel injector. Man, this thing has got me stumped.

The shuddering only started on Tuesday. Any hwelp would be awesome.

Maybe a clogged fuel injector(s)?
I suggest this because of the sediment found in
the fuel filter.

Great idea We put some BG44 in the tank to see if it helps. Can i disconnect them one by one? if the truck dies it is working and if it runs the same it is not, correct?

Whats the easiest way to get to them with the vehicle running?
