I have a 99 explorer. The drivers drive will lock with the key but will not unlock with the key. :banghead:I removed the door panel and all the rods look like they are in place. I can force the key to turn into the unlock position. It will unlock it a couple times then the rod will pop out of the plastic clip on the back of the lock where you put the key in. I can also lock it by hand by inserting my hand in the door and pushing the tab down that the black knob lock indictor is in. But, I cant unlock it there either or by pulling the black knob up on the top of the window sill. I un -rivoted the actuator so it is just hanging. Thinking it was froze. But, I moved up and down when hiting the lock unlock buttom on the door inside. The door wouldnt inlock with the unlock button either before I started working on it.
Thank in advance for any help you can give !!!

This is what I did with a $1.50 spring from Lowes and a little imagination. It works like a new one now. Here is a pic of the spring in place and the window trace removed so you can see it !!!
Hope this helps others !!!

Thanks, your spring solution fixed the 2nd problem I had on my 2000 XLT. 12 years later. Wow, who knew. 1st the drivers door would not lock at all. I finally decided to see about fixing that. Read the manual and removed the trim panel and lock cylinder. The power locks worked everywhere else and they were trying to do the drivers door too. When I saw the gummed up lock cylinder I knew why it would't turn. A simple soak or rinse in rubbing alcohol fixed that. I decided to hit the forums or U-Tube for solutions before searching & reading the manual. I found this and verfied that pushing the yellow thing up let the door be locked & unlocked normally. So I went and got a few springs to try and used a 5/16 x 2 1/2 extension spring with half circle ends attrached to arms. Yeah. Happy Happy Joy Joy. But I had to go out again to obtain celebration materials at the local hooch market.

To give more credit, someone mentioned using a ziptie to attach the spring too. After hooking the spring onto the yellow piece, I was worried it could come off. So, I wrapped a skinny 4" zip tie around the yellow thing & captured the spring end while chinching it tight. No worries now.
