Ok i have been having a problem with my 99 ranger overheating. it happens sporadically. but i had just changed the freeze plug in between the engine and the firewall, but couldnt get the old one out so its still inside the engine. but today after coming back from work i noticed the temperature was all the way up to the top. so i opened the hood and the reservoir had popped open and was steaming hot.

the only thing i could guess was the radiator cap, because it was the cheapest one i could buy or the fan blade being worn out.

And by the way, does anyone by chance have a diagram of all the freeze plugs for the 99 ford ranger v6 3.0L?

Help is much appreciated in anyway.

You may not have purged all the air out of the engine after the expansion plug change. Some cars are very hard to get all the air out requiring several atempts. I allow the engine to start to reach normal temperture on the gauge and shut it off until it cools back down. At this point it is safe to open the radiator cap and coolant recovery tank and add coolant that is needed. You may have to repeat the above process.

In some cases a vehicel will have to be jacked up as high as possible on the front side that the radiator cap is on while filling. I have had cars like the Jeep Cherokee that will require the upper heater hose to be losened while running to allow air to escape.

Thanks, ill try this tomorrow parking it on an incline.
