A/C compressor cycles all the time

I have a 2002 Explorer Sport Trac. My A/C compressor cycles constantly even when my A/C is not on. Everything seems to work properly. Should the A/C compressor do this?

Probably a low charge. That's what mine did when the charge was too low.

I don't know about your model year, but I know that 2nd gens use the A/C compressor in every position other than "floor only". This is done to keep the A/C from seizing up after a winter of not using it.
