I'm not sure about the wifi stuff since I have no use for it. There are a couple of threads about it in the IVT sub-forum. That is the place to look.

As for the Sync stuff, press the "I" at the bottom of the screen will get you to where you can select the appropriate button. I'll tell you this right off the bat, you will have to read the manual! I know, you are all excited and want to jump into it all, but reading the manual will give you a greater understanding of the system as a whole. This system is very powerful and has many, many options and ways to get things done. The manual is a must read :)

Also, be sure to familiarize yourself with the Search function of this forum. That sheer vastness of the information contained here is overwhelming and often questions can be answered with a simple search. And if you are caught asking too many questions that have already been answered, we will pick on you mercilessly ;)

Upgraded to 3.2.2 in my 2013 XLT MFT this morning... So far so good...
How do I turn on Bluetooth MAP for iOS 6 and my iPhone 4 tho?

We are currently testing iOS 6 with SYNC and MFT so I don't have all of the details. Some of the forum folks have been testing it and posting their findings, so you might find your answer here:

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=359468&page=7

got it to download! how often do updates typically come out? annually?

YAY! :D We don't have a set schedule for update releases; we're always working on them.

Connecting to a home or other Wi-Fi access point allows your vehicle to become a Wi-Fi Hotspot. Check this out:

Ok, on another note...after re-reading the Manual, I found that the MFTs phonebook supports contact pictures (if your phone supports this feature). My phone - HTC EVO 4g LTE supports pictures for the contacts...have it set up already. Its a simple enough proceedure to do it...Page 500 of the manual says to go into settings and turn "download photos from phonebook" to on.

However, when I try to do the proceedure...the selection "download photos from phonebook" is not there. What am I missing? Would be really nice to see the picture in the MFT like I have on the phone when receiving calls.

Rebecca... Do the pictures have to be a special format/size? Is there another setting that has to be made 1st? Whats the story? Thanks in advance.

Most phones do support contact photos, the catch is that the phone has to support the Bluetooth profile for sending those photos in order for them to show up in MFT. That is the catch. Are you saying that you can confirm that your phone supports that Bluetooth profile? If it does, then you should be all set (and since they aren't showing up, I suspect that the BT profile is messed up somewhere).

Not trying to argue...but where did you read that? The manual in no way implies that. Granted it is vague by stating "if your device supports this feature". But it does not state the technical requirements to determine if it could be supported.

As for my phone...I have transfered pictures to other phones via bluetooth, and have even printed pictures on my printer at home through bluetooth. So pretty Im sure it transfers pictures via bluetooth.

As for the BT profile possibly being messed up...any idea what should I look for to determine that? Thanks.

My understanding so far is if the peripheral phone supports BT MAP protocol then it will pass text to MFT and MFT can also push text through the cell-phone.

What Im wondering is (from some of the IT guys here on this forum) when the peripheral device supports MAP in the BT stack does that mean it allows all the data thats capable of being transferred via MAP to pass back and forth or only selected data as allowed by MFT software?

Can things like contact photos be pushed across via MAP or are they the wrong file type and size compared to the very small text or email files?

I will try to get more info about this for you, but what I do know is that your contact photos have to be saved to your phone and not the SD card or be transferred from a synced social media site. There isn't a size limit because it's pulling it directly from your phone's contacts. Your phone was tested with Gingerbread, and this feature was compatible; it hasn't been tested with ICS. Which Android OS do you currently have loaded on your phone?

Thanks for the help Rebecca. My phone has ICS. As for the pictures...I have a mix of pictures that are both on the phone and others that are pulled from my synced FB account. Based on what you are saying is should at least see the ones on my phone but I don't.

Please let me know what you find out. Thanks.

Thanks Rebecca

Thanks Rebecca! I will monitor the other thread RE iOS6 and MFT.

Also, I thought I would throw this out there for anyone else updating.

Using a high speed SD Card works WAY better than a USB stick.
Downloading the update from Ford is significantly faster and the update in car only took me about 20 minutes, I assume since the SD Card reads data so much faster than a USB stick. Just a thought for anyone who may read this prior to their update. Use a high speed SD Card if you can.

Cheers,
AZCoyote

No one from Ford has ever mentioned the use of the SD Card reader for MFT updates.

Im wondering why this hasnt been suggested if its a cleaner, faster install?

I apologize in advance for this stupid question or lack thereof. Just want to know the difference between the versions indicated on the MFT screen by going to Menu -> Help -> System Information, which reads S/W version 4.23.11134, and the SYNC version 3.0.2 or 3.2.2.

I'm just a little confused. Is the S/W version sort of the OS version while the SYNC is the program? Please help clarify.

Many thanks!

I checked mine and it shows CCPU S/W 4.28.12156. It does not show the SYNC version. I can't find that anywhere although I loaded and am running on SYNC version Gen2 - V3.2.2.
I believe CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. At least it did where I used to work. Perhaps it means something else here.

Hi, dragonexplorer12!

11134 is version 2.11. You should check SYNCMyRide.com to see if you are able to download version 3.0.2 (Performance Upgrade) on your own or if you will need the dealer to do it for you. You can also send me your VIN in a private message and I'll take a look for you.

Disclaimer time: We do not recommend performing an update using an SD card. This method hasn't been tested so we don't know how reliable it is or the potential failures it could cause.

I'm still trying to get more info for you. I haven't forgotten! :) So far, this is all I have:

"You can download 2,000 entries. If your phone is compatible with the SYNC photo ID feature, your contact photos should also be transferred automatically. The process can take a few minutes, depending on the number of contacts. When the download is finished, Phonebook Download Complete displays." (pg. 435 of the Owners Guide)

Rebecca, for those who have not yet loaded V3.0.2, can they go directly to V3.2.2 or do the upgrades have to be done incrementally?

A friend of mine bought a new 2012 a couple of months ago and after I saw his MFT screen told him that he likely still had V2.11.

Thanks in advance.

Hey, Peter!

Since 3.0.2 is an upgrade, he will need to perform them incrementally. SYNCMyRide.com won't give the option to download 3.2.2 until 3.0.2 is reported as complete.

Hi Rebecca, sorry for the confusion, my CCPU S/W version does read 4.26.12023 after re-checking. I also checked on syncmyride.com and my Sync version as per my VIN is v3.0.2. The 11134 was a post from another forum asking what is the difference between CCPU S/W and Sync versions.

As per Ford Philippines, I will have to wait for an official service bulletin to update from v3.0.2 to v3.2.2. They said that if I do the update on my own then my warranty is completely void :thumbdwn:. It's truly sad how we don't have the same accessibility as US and Canada have.

My 2011 Ford Explorer MFT is at Version 3.0.2 (verified with Status Checker), but there is not option to upgrade it to 3.2.2. Is that upgrade available for the 2011 (no navigation)?

If SYNCMyRide directs you to your dealership for 3.2.2, you probably have not had the Cooling Fan Customer Satisfaction Program completed. Please send me your VIN in a private message and I'll take a look for you.
