Hey fellas, i got a couple questions in reguards to my 2001 sport trac.

1st - It makes squeaking noises going over bumps. would could it be? Its coming from what sounds like the front end, maybe the shocks?

2nd - My ABS light comes on once in while, but when i shut the truck off and restart it doesn't come back on? what could this be?

3rd - Can a Brush Guard be installed without removing the tow hooks?

and lastly

4th - The power outlet (in the pass. seat foot area) doesn't work anymore, but the main outlet under the stereo does. What could this be?

Thanks alot

1. Probably the ball joints. They go bad. If yours is a 2001, I'm surprised they lasted this long. Get new shocks anyway.
2. The ABS light is probably just caused by some dirt in the sensors.
3. Dunno, I never got a brush guard.
4. Probably either the plug itself or the wiring. I don't know for sure, the power outlets are probably all on the same fuse, but check the fuses first.

is there a way to check the ball joints?

i checked the #17 (20A) fuse it was fine, this weekend i'll tear the kick-panels off to look at the wiring for the power outlet.

Thanks-

why take the kick panels out, the power outlet is not in them?.. take out the center console that is where the wiring is.

#1 and #2 are probably dirt.

For #1, wash the underside of the truck and see if the squeaking goes away.

#2, without ABS at least the brakes still work. My Limited's ABS light has been on for years. But, I have checked the 3 sensors for it and the light remains. So probably the ABS unit has a problem. Which is probably very expensive to fix. I haven't had any problems stopping with the Limited.
I probably shouldn't have ABS on the Sport Trac with running 35" tires. :D

#3, A brushguard can be installed and still have the tow hooks. Mine came that way when I bought it from the dealer. You just have problems with the tow hooks if you install a 3" body lift.

#4, I am pretty positive both cigarette lighters outlets in the cab are not on the same fuse. But, I was looking at the manual just now and the one on the side of the center console doesn't jump out at me when looking at the manual. :(

I just came inside from testing this in my 2001 ST. That power outlet's fuse is #22 - Auxiliary Power Socket on the inside fuse box. Maybe you thought #22 was for the power socket in the bed of the truck. But, I believe the power socket in the bed of the truck is fused in the fuse/power distribution box underneath the hood.

Just to update on this I checked the #22 fuse (20a), it was blown. Replaced and it was like brand new. Thanks alot!! Now i am going to go wash the *beep* out of my ST to see if i can get the squeaking noise to go away, maybe it'll wash off the ABS unit aswell. i have noticed it comes on when i hit potholes or any other bumps.

Thanks

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but an ABS light can be caused by failing wheel bearings.

Hey fellas, i got a couple questions in reguards to my 2001 sport trac.

Also check to see if your sway bar bushings are shot and/or lacking lubrication.

If your front end still squeaks going over even minor bumps, try grease around the rubbers on the stabalizer bar. Worked for me.
