water proof it! The distributor and plug wires all get treated to repel water.
All electrical connectors get treated or replaced.
The vent tubes on the axles, tranny, t case, etc... all get moved up higher.

Basically the snorkel is only the beginning.....

There is a real good article on off0road.com about waterproofing.

The point is not to make a gasoline engine run under water, it's to make it so the ignition does not get wet enough to stall when your up to the headlights crossing a stream....

Of course unless it's a diesel if you get too deep it will stall....

Actually for an Explorer, the raising of the vent tubes is the beginning because they are lower than the stock air intake plus no one makes a snorkel for the Explorer that I am aware of except custom ones made by the owners. I wish someone did though. I have already raised the vent tubes on mine.

I think this was meant to be under http://216.10.4.111/forums/showthread.php?threadid=19878
I scrolled down after posting and saw it and thought these two are related.

Someone will go after this since there is lately more and more companies with aftermarket mods for Explorers. No one ever thought probably that Explorer is gonna be used off road. All adds were kind of pointing towards to comfort, power and that kind of stuff. Now with next year Ranger there's even an off road package offered.

Making mods was always a chalange trying to fit non Explorer parts on an Explorer. Most of the time it's minor but still some require skill. Snorkel could well be done as well. Anything is possible but first you need money and second you need time.

Later,

:)

Fabbing a snorkel for the Explorer wouldn't be that hard, the problem would be waterproofing everything else.
