well i need to rebuild my a4ld. im in canada and was wondering if theres a canadian company or website that i can get a complete rebuild kit from or should i just let the techs do that? can i trust a tranny shop or should i just do it myself. i am pretty mechanicaly inclined so i feel pretty comfortable taking it on. but if they are trust worthy then i would let them do it. warranty and all. opinions would help thanks all.

I had four transmissions put in within 3 months time. Three of them were rebuild by so called local transmission professional shop and all failed within a week. The fourth and last one were done by a different shop and found the third transmission with defective and wrong parts in it. Luckily I had help in removing and installing those first three transmissions but not counting the tools and transmission fluids and labor. From my experiences through this nightmare, shops do not completely rebuilds transmission 100% unless we are talking into the 3000 -4500 price range. Those 700-1200.00 cash and carry units lucky 40% or less of parts are replaced as long as they don't show wear on the used parts they'll put them back in even without cleaning especially on the hard parts like direct, forward, reverse drums, fluid pump, center support seals, thrust washers and etc (found this out the hard way). Most of them will replace only the bands, couple of seals and that's about it. I actually saw one mechanic did a rebuild with the corner of my eyes and he uses 20% of parts from a rebuild kit and tossed the almost full package to the only of his shop into a barrel. They do not even disassemble drums to check sprags or springs at all like Glacier does on his diary, it hardly exist and they don't have the tools to do it on these low end shops. Are you sure you don't want to rebuild it yourself?

The remanufactured transmission in my 88 sounds like your description. It had problems from the beginning, and Ford didn't honor their 12 month 12K mile warranty, so I had to rebuid it again. My core had more updated parts than the one they gave me.

where can i get a rebuild kit from. i have been looking every where. are there kits out there that include everything you need to do a complete rebuild or do you have to buy the parts seperately?in this case what parts should i get. thanks guys for your never ending help with me and all the others that come here.

There are different kits. Some have everything except for hard parts while others only have gaskets, clutch plates, steel plates or seals. Check WWW.TransmissionPartsUSA.Com or WWW.Wittrans.Com. Replace the bands, servos, gaskets, seals, modulator, steel plates, clutch plates, and the governor. You might need some hard parts such as planetaries, one way sprags, drums, springs, etc. There is no way to know if you need those unless you open it first. I recommend Sonnax upgrades for the valve body.

SOOOOO!!!! check this out. I took the truck to a transmission mechanic ( a friend of a friend) and he test drove it for me, he says that it is going into 2nd gear and that theres maybe a valve stuck. when we started off in drive the rpms went up to 3500 and then let off the gas and when the rpms dropped a bit it would shift into 2nd. OR when starting off if we used only a little bit of gas (like 1/4 throttle) it would shift normally.so he wants to do a flush and filter and add some kinda lube additive to it before trying to rebuild the valve body.

Ask him to check the intermediate band with a torque wrench. It sounds like it either broke or needs to be adjusted. Did you check the vacuum line going into the modulator for leaking transmission fluid?

i have already replaced the vacum modulator, as it was gone,it was sucking tranny fluid start into my engine. but that didnt help the problem. the tranny guy says that the band cant be broke because its going into 2nd gear, if it was broke then it wouldnt ever go into second gear. well ill ask him today as hes going to do a flush and filter and lube additive and see if that helps first, start with the cheap things first right??

well we found the problem. the inter band broke and the piece that the adjustor bolt tightens on feel out and in to the oil pan. he says he can fix it and do a hard and soft part rebuild for $660, as well i will be helping him and learning with the rebuild. pretty good price?

the only thing he said that he would charge me more for would be the clutchs if they need to be replaced. he seem like a cool guy. he just opened 2 months ago and wants to have good name for him self. wish me luck, updates as soon as its fixed!!! thanks for the help BrooklynBay!!!!

ya im not sure hes not listed in the website but maybe it as not gone through yet. he just open 2 months or so ago
