Happy Fathers day gentlemen.

I am new to this site, so here we go. I have a 1992 Ford Explorer rear wheel drive with the A4LD transmission that slips in and out of overdrive.

Need help, can't afford a rebuild.

Welcome to this forum! I would recommend adjusting both bands before you replace any parts. It's possible that the servos might be dried out, and leaking. Start with the band adjustment first.

Also check your fluid level. After a good warm up drive leave the truck running in park (P) and check the fluid level. There is a dipstick in the back of the engine bay behind the engine. If you notice your fluid is low or dirty or low and dirty a fluid/filter change isn't a bad idea and fairly easy to do. Along with the band adjustment you should be good to go. Make sure if you do a fluid change only replace the exact amount of fluid you take out not put the 10 quarts it actually holds unless of course you do a full flush the you would need to replace it all.
