i've been having problems with my 1994 explorer with it's trans. it seemed like the torque converter was staying locked up and would kill the engine. i replaced the torque converter clutch solenoid and it seemed to work good for a day. and then of course it acted up on my wife again. after test driving again, i determined that the trans was not shifting down when coming to a stop. when i would shift it manually, it worked fine. could it be my 3-4 shift solenoid? any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread to the transmission section. It's possible that the internal spools in the valve body are not releasing when they should be. I would recommend rebuilding the valve body. Internal parts could stick if they are dirty. There are different additives you could use after you rebuild it to help prevent this occurrence in the future.
