A4LD transmission problems

I've got a stock 93 explorer 4x4 with a 4.0 6v.
it has a A4LD transmission and my problem is when the car is cold or been setting for a while it starts fine and shifts in to any gear i want but when take off in drive it's like taking off in 2 SD gear for about a mile or so then it shifts and it's fine from then on. When I'm doing 35 mph my tach is reading about 4500 rpms.
Any help with this would be great.

I don't know alot about auto trannys, but i know where the vacuum line is your talking about. I'll check it out
