i have a 2000 explorer sport 4.ol ohv with 112,x.. miles.i been running 4 quarts of royal purple 5w-30 with 1 quart of lucas synthetic oil stabilizer and a k&n oil filter for about a year and a half.im due for an oil change this weekend, but was wondering if going over 3000 miles would be ok? i remember reading on another thread on here about some people talking about going 5000 or more miles with synthetic oil.i just want to be 100% sure its not a bad idea to go over 3000.its not that i can't afford the regular 3000 mile intervals, but if i can get a little more mileage out of my oil/filter,im up for that.any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! thanks.you can see all about what my truck is running/using below.

Actually Mobil 1 and Amsoil are far batter than RP... I'd also drop the lucas oil stabilizer http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm. I haven't changed my Mobil 1 since November of 06, of course it uses and leaks about a quart a month, it comes out just as cheap for me to do it this way if I buy the 5 quart jug. Motor still has 60PSI oil pressure at 1600RPM like when I bought it. In a rig that doesn't use any oil I'd run it about 7-10k miles.

^^^ actually royal purple is better then mobil 1 now cause Royal purple and amsoil are "true" synthetic where as mobil one dropped a class down. btw u can go 5k oil changes with regular oil and be ok, synthetic you can go around 10k +

Try reaching for 10,000 with Synth. I usually let mine go to 7k or so, but Synth will run a long time before dying.

You could do like Al does/ did, and send an oil sample in to see if you even need to change it. Keep the filter changed though, and you'll be GTG.

ok thanks for all the advice guys! i think i'll try to go 5000-6000 this time and see how it is.but yea i dont burn any oil/loose.i check it right before i change it and its still up there on the don't fill line.

Running high quality oil and a filter like that you could probably go 10,000+ with no problems. When you get up that high you would want to do an oil analysis on your oil just to make sure.

I'd also drop the lucas oil stabilizer http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm.

so you other guys think i should stop using the lucas oil stabilizer? after reading that link above^^^^^ from hahnsb2......i think i might go 5000 miles on this oil chage.so i got about 2100 miles to go.i'll be at 3000 in about another 100 and some miles.im currently running 4-quarts royal purple 5w-30 with 1-quart lucas synthetic oil stabilizer and a k&n oil filter.but maybe i should go ahead and use 5-quart's royal purple 5w-30 on my next oil change?

ok i'll stop using it for now, just straight oil.royal purple 5w-30.i still will use the lucas fuel treatment.i think lucas is a good product.but maybe the oil addative just isn't there top product.

I'm well over 11,000 miles now on my Amsoil and the Amsoil filter. If you don't have a leaking/burning issue, the Amsoil and long service interval(up to a year) is the way to go.

FYI, the air filter is the most important engine oil factor. The vast majority of contaminants in oil get into the engine through the air filter. Invest in the best cleaning air filter you can find. For my 99 Explorer the Amsoil oil/filter and EA air filter are about $90.

The Amsoil best oil/filter at about $52 per year is cheaper than doing other oil changes at 3000 miles. Good luck,
