I left the house the other day in the snow, and when I pulled out my ABS light came on. A little push on the brake confirmed the ABS was not working, as the wheels locked right up and I slid sideways. Once stopped, I shut the truck off, and restarted it. The ABS Light was off, and at the next stop the ABS was working fine, You could hear and feel the normal sounds of the ABS working, and I came to a smooth stop. What would cause an intermittent ABS problem like this.

TIA

Robert

could be some snow or debris on the ABS wheel sensor.

If you spin the wheels a lot in the snow (especially in "auto" mode), the abs system will get confused and throw a light. Shutting the ignition off and re-starting it re-sets the system.

I used to wheel an '01 Explorer quite a bit. I kicked the ABS light on regularly when I was spinning the wheels when stuck or trying to get through some slop.
