I have a 1999 Ford Explorer,Eddie Bauer,4.0 v-6,sohc engine. The ABS light came on. Any ideas on what to check on this? Thanks.

I ended up cutting the wire (PIN 16) on the harness leading to the plug.
YES I know that this is not the right way but frankly I could care less about ABS..... Conventional brakes work great. Light goes out immediately.

The easist thing to try is about $20 the sensor on top of the rear differential. That may cure it quick.

On mine the whole ABS Assembly (MODULE FAULT) is bad which is a real pain to change and then sequence with computer to bleed.

I gave up and cut the wire.

Sensor would be the first place I would start.

2 in front, 1 on each hub.
1 in the rear, on top of the differential, front side.

Rear is easiest to work on, and common after high miles. You can remove it and clean off the sensor to see if that helps.

Front sensors are expensive & since new hubs come with them, I would replace the hubs. You can check the wires on these to see if they are cracked/cut/broken, or if one of the connections are loose.

If the ABS light flashes, its something else. ABS off, the light stays on steady.
