My ABS light came on some time ago and recently my neighbor brought over his ABS scanner and read the codes...RF speed sensor (don't recall the exact code itself). So today we went to work replacing not only the sensor but also the entire hub, since it was basically the same cost at Advanced Auto for the hub/sensor assembly as just the sensor.

Got it all done, started the truck...light still on. Checked the connection where the wire plugs into the harness under the front end (several times), seems tight, no bent pins. Tried to reset the code by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 20 minutes, still no luck.

Any suggestions? I've heard that only a Ford dealership can reset certain codes with their own scanners...is that true? We re-scanned again and it returned the same code...makes no sense since it's all brand-new.

Thanks
Kevin

I hope someone out there has the answer to this question. I have replaced all 3 of my sensors. The hubs out of necessity & the rear sensor after the stupid light didn't go away. It was cheap so I figured it couldn't hurt. My light is still on! I read about a control module too but code dealer gave was for the sensors. Frustrating!

Make sure all the sensor wires are plugged in properly and that none of the wires are cut.

abs sensors

I replaced all 3 meaning, 2 front, when hubs replaced & the rear sensor on the diff. Nothing has worked. I can't find any wiring issues or fuse problems, etc. I fear I'll just have to live with it. At least it doesn't fail inspection because of it. Thanks for the help

I finally fixed it. Believe it or not, the plug was not going all the way into the harness so it wasn't making contact. I actually had to bend (very slightly) the pins inside the new connector to get it to slide all the way in. If you look closely at the harness, the holes where the pins from the plug slide into are not exactly centered in the hole, yet on my plug wire at least, the pins seemed to be dead center. The pins were catching just ever so slightly on the rim of the holes, stopping it from going in all the way.

If you are looking at your plug, it should have a beveled edge about halfway down the plug housing. That beveled edge needs to be all the way up against the rim of the harness or it's not all the way in.

I finally figured it out by looking at the driver's side connection and determined I just didn't have it in all the way. Started up the truck and success! the light went off.

Thanks Kevin & glad yours is good.
I will recheck connections this weekend.
