ABS light came on about two weeks ago. Did some checking around here and saw that the rear speed sensor is a common culprit. Bought one from O'Reilly's and replaced it last Saturday. Started it up, ABS light went off. Drove it, and the ABS started activating during normal, non-panic stops, usually near the end of the pedal travel. Did this a few times, eventually ABS light came back on after driving a few miles. Every time I start the car, the ABS light is off, but the behavior I described above repeats itself. I'm thinking about disconnecting the negative battery cable to let the computer reset itself. Didn't do this after I replaced the sensor. Let me know what y'all think. If this doesn't work, I might have it scanned or just pull the fuse, put electrical tape over the ABS light, and go back to using brakes the old fashioned way!

We can guess at this all day, the best solution is an ABS scanner where they monitor wheel speeds as reported by the sensors. The scanner will be able to pinpoint a trouble code too. www.obd-2.com will check ABS codes if you have the iso addon. Its not exactly for a beginner but very useful for any computer issue.

You could also have a bad wire, front speed sensor, incorrect gap or pickup wheel. Maybe wiggle some of the wires and see if anything changes.
