On my 93 EX - While working in the passenger side exhaust manifold area, I needed access so I disconnected the AC dryer (?) 2 wire plug and the plug below. Then I reconnected both connections. Now when I turn on the AC (light comes on), I don't hear the compressor kick in. And no cool air. Fan works fine. I checked the plug going in at the top of the compressor and it reads zero volts when the engine is running and the AC light is on. The AC worked fine before I unplugged those two connections. It is the original R12 system. Last re-charge was done at least 18 years ago. Any suggestions ?

I wish I could help you out but I can't. I'm interested to see what others tell you though. I have the same problem. AC light comes on but the compressor doesn't kick in.

You should check and double check and be extra extra sure that the plugs are actually plugged in all the way. Last time I had the A/C recharged, I found the A/C 'mysteriously' didn't work even though the switch did, and the cause was simply the plug being the slightest amount off, so connecting it all the way did the trick.

If there is no voltage on either side of the plug with the switch on, you may need to check the wiring, fuses, and A/C relay to see if something happened because of the plug removal, or having it off with the switch on. Since the wiring is getting old, sometimes wires or the sheath around them can crack or break, leading to broken connections, shorted wires, etc. You may need to follow the wires from the switch to the firewall to find the cause.

You should also try pushing the wires into the plug or checking to be sure they haven't broken at/inside the plug. This can happen if the plug wires are handled instead of the plug itself, especially when pulling it off.

Thanks Anime - I checked both the plug next to the air box, and then the two wire connector at the rec/dryer (?) (where the valve conn is for re-charge) and that was the culprit. With ignition on and the AC pushed in (light on) I pulled that two wire conn off and then pushed the wires into the conn and when I plugged it back it, I heard a click at the compressor. Then, I started the engine and the AC works fine now. Good advice on double checking connections - especially if you have previously dis-connected them.
