This thread isnt related to my Explorer but rather my Mustang. I just finished rebuilding the 71 302 that is in my 65 Mustang. It ran beautifully, smooth as can be until she warmed up. when everything in the engine got up to its operating temperature it lost almost all of its power and, ran very rough. One of my friends that builds Dodge engines took a look at it and fond that the valves were not closing fully because the rockers never took all of the pressure off of them. Now they are only of by 2 thousandths of an inch and the only way to change the gap between the valve stem and the rocker is to shorten the push rods which I am not going to do.

My question: Are there any adjustable rockers out there that will work for my motor?

Do you still have the press-in studs? You can get adjustable rockers from Comp-Cams, Crane...etc, but I highly recommend having a machine shop install screw-in studs if it doesn't have them already. Also, (I don't remember the years) but you will also want to do away with the "rail-type" rockers if you have them.

If you have the pedestal mount type--there are shims available--this is how you correct the geometry--
I believe they come in .005, and .010 thicknesses--usually 16 of each in a package. They are about 15 bux

You can have the heads machined for stud mount rockers-however it requires head removal-if you do this go for 7/16" studs
Unless you are revving above 6000 rpm's it shouldn't be much problem though.

I would try the shims
