Hello everyone,

could you please give me a clue. As a start my 1995 Explorer at low ambient temperatures (like below +10C; I live in Russia so it's like half a year below that) I hear some soft and frequent knocking in the engine. Not always; it's intermittent. As the engine heats up, the knocking abruptly stops. The serviceman has checked the engine and found nothing wrong. The timing chain is OK. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hard to say without listening to it...cold engine piston slap?

Do a search on EGR valve.Might be cracked.

could just be the lifters pumping up. My 4.0 OHV tends to do this also.
