I am about to buy a new explorer and my kids didn't like it that if you don't get the console in the middle, there is no arm rest. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket armrest of any ideas about how to mod one?. Thanks

You can get the console now should you want. Its not too expensive all things considered. I think it is around 280

Thanks but I don't want the console because I have a big dog and I think that is where he will lie down on trips.

There are no after market arm rests that I'm aware of. I have the same setup in my MKT, no console, and I find that unless the bucket seats are occupied, my dog quickly jumps in there. She used to do the same thing, jumping into the passenger seat when I had the second row seats folded down. I cured that by leaving the front console lid in the open position. I suggest getting a barrier of some sort to keep the dog in the back unless you load that up.
