I installed a few switches into my Explorer's center console yesterday, as well as 12v and usb power in the back of the console, just thought I would share some pics for anyone else looking to do it as I couldn't find a thread on it when I started.
I put in four switches in the bottom of the coin tray.
I had to cut about two inches out of the inside tray of the console to allow clearence for where the switch connectors come through, however you cannot see that unless you stick your head inside the tray.
Switches on
And the rear power, options for where to put them on the back were limited by the mount in the centre.
All the wires were run under the carpet from the dash, then up into the console through a 1" hole drilled just in front of the front console mount.
