I'm sure this has been around somewhere.

But, are there aftermarket Torsion bars out there?

I have the "B" bars on my 95, but the front is starting to sag, and the right side is 3/4" lower then the left side, either somethings up with my kit, or my bars are going bad, and I think it's the bars.

And if I'm gonna replace em, I wanna find some aftermarket ones if possible.

Thanks

I am not sure about aftermarket ones, but the OEM ones are fairly cheap, around $50 each.

I thought B rated bars were the stiffest bars....

Klowns,

How do you know they are sagging? What if they just need adjusting? I have one side that sits higher the the other, but I think I just need to adjust them again. Try that first.

Yeah they are the stiffest bars that Ford makes.

I'll get down and under there again.

I was just under there yesterday and they were both cranked as far as theyw ould go.

Now I know i could just lower the left side 3/4" of an inch to even it out, but still it sucks.

Cuase if I do that, the front end will sit about 3 1/2" lower then the back. It already is at about 2 3/4" as of now, and it looks kinda stupid.

But If I take off the shackles in the back, Which is making it so high in the back, it'll give me less tire clearence for the 35's. We'll see what happens though, I might have to make my own shackles.

But if they 7 years old, they're sagging.

That's true, can't hurt to replace them I guess. Good luck, keep us posted.

I was looking on Fordpartsnetwork.com earlier and they are down to $34/piece.

Thanks for the info kev.

I see the right torsion bar for 44.78 and the left for 39.59

You're right, it was earlier today and I thought it was $34, but it is $39.

Yeah, ditto what everyone has said. The torsion bars seem to settle into their stock location over time and refuse to move when you want to twist them. I twisted mine and didn't get anything out of them (I had/have B bars as well). The new bars twisted without a problem.

These bars have settled into place as well, but where I want them to be. The thing about new bars is that they have a lot more spring and with the OME shocks are likely to over extend the suspension, so it's a good thing when they finally settle.

The only reason there are aftermarket bars available for vehicles is that the factory one's were too weak. This is seemingly not the situation with X's. As I'm sure you know, the Explorer bars hold up rather well. The main reason it would be nice for us to have an aftermarket bar available is to have one made with a quality metal for light weight and a smoother ride. But as we've seen, it's pretty damn hard to get the aftermarket to move on anything for Explorer suspension.

How hard is it to change torsion bars? is there a trick? are they a pain in the butt? I just got a 96 that i want o lift with a body lift and the TT... but am afraid they are proabably worn a little and going to sag.... i was thinking of installing a new set of B's.....

anyone find out about the south american torsion bars? I think that yellow with checkerflag baja ford explorer with the mtr's had them. also had one piece A arms i believe.
