Are you planning on keeping those tires until winter Sgt1411?
BTW - Pretty weird that Ford has already changed the wheel design for the Utility. I don't think I've ever seen any photos of the 2011 Utility with wheels like that - they do look nice though.

Those photos are taken on one of the prototype builds for the 2013 Interceptor, not a retail Explorer. Those tires are special only to the Interceptor as well. Public cant buy that exact tire, just same size tire (18in).

Not available for production or part orders yet.

Yes, they are changing the brochures and marketing materials very soon.

Those wheels were the final design in order to meet the LA Sheriffs and Michigan State Police braking tests. The old design didn't allow for enough cooling so they went to these to get the correct temperature readings at the end of the testing. MSP and LASD braking tests are very extreme.

One of the engineers mentioned they were looking at the police braking package components as the new standard for the Taurus SHO Track Package.

Ah, ok, thanks for clearing that up. And this also means those wheels are not on your Ex correct?

No, not on my Ex.......I have 20in Polished aluminium OEM

I just wanted Ex owners to see them as a possible choice of a second set of steel wheels for people who run full separate set of snow tires and steel wheels in winter.

Rims and Tires

I too have been looking for a while now to find a good size and look for the X, but it's a lot harder than with all my previous cars. I decided to stick with the oem measurements, keep it at a 20" with a slightly less bulky tire. 255 45 R20 instead of the 255 50 20 it has on now.

I found that there wasn't much room left for any upsizing and running a low profile tire on a 22" rim on an SUV that is designed with decent off-road capabilities I thought it would defeat the purpose too much, although I like the looks of it.

The only thing I was really hoping to achieve is to get a bit of a wider stance and bring the rims out closer to be flush with the body. (I used to own a lowered VW - maybe this is just a remnant of my previous passion). But given the beefiness of this truck I think it would look awesome.

I ordered Vossen 078s and they looked tiny and cheap even though they aren't. I think the secret is to get a flat lip that has a bit of a concave shape to it otherwise the wheels look small. The other think to keep in mind is that a black wheel gets lost with the black of the tire then the wheel well trip on top of it. i thought about the Fangs in chrome but I figured they were a little to blingy for my wife since the will be driving it the most. The Linc is cool too.

Agreed, wheels without a lip will look like they are larger in diameter.

Even though I currently don't own a 2011 Explorer, it's a vehicle that I'm interested in. I'd like to see how owners deal with custom wheels on these.

Anyone swapped out wheels yet? I'm looking for ideas on my black Ex. Am also interested in Ford 20" wheels if you got em'.

Look in the modified 2011 section of this forum. I have swapped my wheels. I also have oem 20" polished aluminum rims for sale.

I'd also consider selling my factory 20" polished wheels if interested. I'm in the Nashville TN area.

I saw this one the other day. I didn't care for the look...

Thats just plain Ugly!!!

It's uglier than it was even back then... Good God those wheels look horrid.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Those wheels look ugly because they are too small, first of all, and a piss poor choice for ANY vehicle style wise. But aftermarket wheels will ALWAYS improve the look of your vehicle if the right ones are picked. Here is mine: These are my 20" winter. Getting 22" for the summer
I got the iPike RW11 Hankook on these rims (265/55/20) and I am pretty happy with them, good traction, good grip, and they look mean and aggressive. Nice wide tire and the offset of the rims makes them flush with the body, giving a nice wide stance bulldog look.
