Its time for new plugs.

2006 V6 w/186k on the odo.

Had a misfire (0301), checked the plug gap and its just a bit off (somewhere north of .075 instead of .052-.056).

Any suggestions on what to toss in as a replacement?

My experience is that modern cars run best and most reliably with plugs that come with it from the factory.

Ditto. Stick with the OEM plugs that have proven to perform well. It's been said MANY times here, especially the 4.0L V6.

Surprised Motorcraft doesn't offer a FineWire Platinum upgrade to the SP-412.

They've had the SP-500 FineWire for years designed specifically for earlier 4.0L SOHC's.

The Autolite XP Iridium plugs appear very similar to the FineWire Platinum design.
