Last weekend I discovered that my V6 has the air filter housing for the 5.0L. Its a long story how I found this out. I was wondering if anyone else has run into this and see if anyone has an explination.

Thanks

Yea, thats it.

Ford used the round ones in 96 & 97 that I know of on both. Dont know why. Happy they did though because by removing the cover and crimping the retaining ring on the filter you can have an open element filter.

That's the airbox that I had stock. 4.0 OHV V6, 1996.

my moms 96 4x4 ohv 4.0l 4-door xlt has that as well

Here is the short version of what happened.....my V6 calls for one air filter. I got it and it didnt fit. I took it back and went to another store. This time I took my old air filter in with me. The guy checked the computer and he gave me the filter thats listed for the V6. Too big, dont fit. Then he got the air filter that the 5.0L calls for and when we compared it with my old one, it was the same.

I was just curious to see if anyone else had experienced this.
