airbag light stays on sometimes

on our 06' Eb the airbag light comes on and stays on sometimes. Someone told me its a loose connection under the seat? and i searched other posts and they say battery is going bad. We have had no starting issues with the car so a bit unclear on what it could be. anyone else have this issue that was not the battery?

im in minnesota and i used to have that problem when it got REALLY cold here.

I had a similar problem in one of my non-Explorer vehicles and it turned out to be the sensor. It could be the sensor itself which is more expensive to replace than if it is just the harness.

I have the same problem sometimes and have isolated the condition that causes it but not the fault itself. When my passenger seat it set all the way forward (like in the case of transporting something large in the back) the airbag light will come on and stay illuminated. There must be some sensor the gets moved but since it goes away after returning the seat I've never been forced to locate the problem.

Id be willing to bet its your battery. Is it the original? Replace it. Problem will go away.

Yep its org battery, but have no issues with it starting or any of that

it is your battery. It will still start fine but the voltage changes and drops make the electronics do funny things. Go get a new one and it will go away. easy fix.

The sensor for the passenger airbag is in the seat, but you may want to check the battery like others have suggested. If the module were at fault it would actually flash a fault code when you turn the key from off to run. If it is not doing that, check the battery. If it is flashing a fault code, count twice. It will flash once, then flash again. Put the two numbers together. i.e. - - -...- - - - - would be 35.

I asked about the $89.95 battery shown in the coupon, and he said they don't sell a lot of those because of the shorter warranty. He said the $119.95 battery is 3 year full replacement. If I wait till February are the prices going higher than that?

My son's '95 Grand Marquis is the one that needs the battery. The G. Marquis is on its last legs, so I was going to buy a new one for the Explorer, and put the old Explorer battery in the '95. Usually, I just buy 'em at Walmart. Good fresh stock for a Johnson Controls battery at the best price:

I'd really rather have a Motorcraft in the Explorer, but that label on the battery is only worth so much!

Same thing just happened last week to my 06 in the cold weather. I searched the forum and read to replace the battery. It was original battery as well and replacing it did the trick. On an 06 that is a decent battery life and ready for a new one.

I checked the Explorer's battery, and it's an Interstate. The original was probably just replaced before we bought it, so it's probably pretty new. However, the AC Delco in our 2004 Grand Marquis has a date code of 022, which translates to February 2002! Is that even possible? It might make sense, because I threw a charger on it about two weeks ago, just to keep it topped off (the car is garaged), and it stayed at the full 4 amp rate, even overnight. It starts the car fine, but something is obviously wrong with it. I'll see if Walmart can test it when I pick up the new one...

Once you run the vehicle for a few miles, turn it off and back on the airbag light will stay off. I will check the voltage when the vehicle is turned off tomorrow. I will post my results here.

Correct....SRS system control modules have a low voltage threshold that will light the warning lamp if voltage dips below that threshold. Once the engine is running and warmed up, the voltage comes back up and on the next ignition/start cycle, the warning lamp extinguishes. A slowly weakening battery is a common cause of this....and cranking the engine in the winter drops the voltage below the threshold. .
