I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 3.0 L. I disconnected the battery so I could replace the cruise control switches on my steering wheel and didn't notice the instruction to only disconnect the negative, so I disconnected both negative and positive. I had previously disabled my alarm system because my key fob was acting weird (it would set off the alarm if I moved my hand over it), but when I reattached the battery, the alarm went off. I tried to turn it off using the key fob, but it doesn't respond (doesn't lock/unlock doors any more either) so now I have no way to disarm the alarm system and I can't start my engine. I called a mechanic I trust and he gave me directions on several things to try short of removing the alarm system, none of which worked. He then told me I'd have to remove it, and offered to do so, only problem is, I'm in a different city, so that's not an option. I'd like to remove the alarm system myself because I'm on a tight budget and was hoping someone here could offer some help.
Currently, I've found that if I pull the fuse that's part of the alarm system, I can start the engine once (if I want to start it again, I have to insert then remove the fuse again) but this isn't really a working solution.
Thanks for any help you can offer!
