Alternator?

Hi,

I am new to this forum. My question is that my ford explorer sport didn't start and doesn't hold a charge. This morning my suv doesn't start but when I open the door I hear a flickering sound that should be a dinging sound when the door opens. I turned off the dimmer switch and now when I open door flickering noise how grown to a very faint. Is that still an alternator problem?

It could either be a bad battery or possibly the alternator.

Thank you Tony for your reply. I feel a little silly but relieved it was not the alternator. I moved the negative terminal, just a tad, on the battery and everything went on: radio, lights, dinging sound when the door opens, gauges, etc. I had the terminal replaced today.
