Will an alternator off a 2001 Ford Explorer work on a 2002 Ford Explorer?

Quick way to find out would be to go into an Auto Zone or other parts store and ask to see an alternator for a 2001 and then a 2002 and see if they mount the same way and have the same electrical connections. If they do then maybe, if they do not, then definitely no.

Rockauto's buyer's guide for the '01 alt only lists 98-01 explorers.
For the '02 alt it says 02-05.
That's for the v6 and 8.

I would say it's unlikely that it's going to interchange.
