hey, i'm doing the same thing as u. Im using the factory head unit and a line out converter for my amp. Can u give details on how you set your system up, for example, where did u get the input wires from(the head unit or from the factory JBL amp).
As for your question, I would say anywhere that would allow u to adjust the level easily since you may have to experiment with it to get the best sound.

I also did the same thing: running an amp from the stock head unit, but with no factory sub. Power comes directly from the battery, and the remote wire goes through a switch to the fuse box (radio fuse). I got the input from the rear speaker leads behind the passenger kick panel. That way I can adjust the levels with the bass or fade controls. The amp is mounted behind the passenger door against the wall.
Good Luck!

Yay, my first posted pic :)

A good place would be to go in between the the input and output harnesses of the factory amp. If you go directly from the headunit you will still have to bypass the amp. It will not sound good to double amplify them.

Sorry I may have miss understood. What I said goes if you are amplifying the four main speakers, it will be different if you are just powering a sub.

WHAT SIZE SUB DID YOU HOOK UP? DO YOU HAVE REAR SPEAKERS NEXT TO THE REAR PASSANGER SEAT? DID YOU HAVE A HARD TIME RUNNING POWER WIRE THOUGH THE FIRE WALL?
LET ME KNOW, DOING MY PROJECT THIS WEEKEND!!
THANKS
CHRIS

IM RUNNING A SUB, IS IT COOL TO RUN THE LINE OUT FROM THE REAR SPEAKER?
CHRIS

Yes you will want to run it from the rear speaker.

My 97 has through the firewall on the drivers side just under the steering wheel that I have used for several wires. It is easy to get to and you can cut the rubber mat and it will still seal well.

Right now I have RockfordFosgate 5x7's in the four stock locations. This is a bad picture, but I have 2 JL 10's in an isobaric box in the back:

Like Griffin said, running through the firewall is easy. Make sure you put a fuse on the line close to the battery, my amp came with a 15amp "floating" fuse. Also, make sure you connect to BOTH rear speaker lines, not just one side: better sound. I spliced in before the wiring harness under the passenger kick panel and ran the wires under the door sill to the amp. As you can see, the wire from the amp to the subs is a really long double insulated wire with quick connects to the box. This allows me to move the box around or take it out.

BTW Chris, could you lay off the caps? They hurt my eyes!

Oh, the amp is also controlled by a switch (on the negative lead to the fuse box) so I can shut it off when going by cops ;)
