I changed out the fluid and tranny filter today. Now, we all know that heat if the transmission's worst nightmare...If that is true, who was the brain surgeon that the designed the x to have the cat converters right next to the tranny?????

You won't pick up much heat from convection that way, not even enough to believe that they are even a small part of the problem.

Oh come on,it's fun to replace the tranny.....and then the alternator 2 weeks later. My checkbook is smokin' :D

If memory serves, most of the heat is generated by the torque converter, particularly if you have it in a stalled state, i.e. waiting at a stoplight. I don't know that definitively, it seems right. We have a lot of long railroad trains passing though our area... I almost always put it in park. It seems like it doesn't tax the engine and trans so much.
