Well, for now, I have a Sony Xplod CDX-M610 head unit (the one that flips down, it's so purty : ), and a kenwood amp. It'll push out about 230x2. I wanted to get kappa 6x8's for the front and back, but I was wondering, what do you guys think I should get for the subs? I'm either going to get Kappa's or Perfect's. I know I know, the perfects can slam...but, if I can get good sound out of a kappa and not have to spend the money on perfect's, well then, that's perfect :P. I have a bandpass box big enough for either of them, but I was just wondering if the kappa's will put out a lot of bass with that configuration...

dont buy the perfects if you are using a banpass box. why spend the extra money? bandpass boxes have terrible sound quality and a narrow frequency range. you should just get a cheap pair of subs. the enclosure is just as important as the subwoofer. if you put a great sub in a bad box, you wont get great performance.
you would be better off getting a decent subwoofer and a ported or sealed enclosure. you should go for ported if you want it to really hit hard. the perfects are better than the regular kappas, but either one will sound better in a ported box than bandpass. if you dont want to spend the $$$ on perfects and want great bass, look into other brands (Orion, Earthquake, Audiobahn, etc...).

The regular Kappa subs are good for sound quality but they really lack in the SPL range. For the price of the Kappa's you could get a much better sub. The Kappa 6x8's are a good speaker, but the 5.25" will sound better (at least to me.) Also where do you plan on purchasing this equipment?

I got the box for free from a friend...so I didn't really want to purchase another one and spend the extra money. To be honest, I wanted two cerwin vega 12's in a dual ported box, but no one makes them big enough, and I honestly don't know enough about the boxes or have the time to build one. As per the other, I like the round speakers more as well, but the 6x8's are the ones that go in the doors of the older model explorer's. Actually, I think they go in the newer ones as well. I don't want to have to mess with any cutting or anything like that. And I'm purchasing all of the stuff through my cousin who works at a performance audio place, so I can get realatively discounted prices.

are you saying nobody makes a dual ported box big enough???

www.speakerhole.com has dual 12" slot vented boxes that are 2.85cuft per chamber.

if your cousin works at a car audio shop, cant he make the box for you? i'm sure he wont charge you very much.

Also the adapters to fit 5.25" speakers are only $10 a pair from crutchfield. Or you could get them from the shop you talked about.

So this adapter for $10? Is it an adapter just for 6x8 to 5 1/4 or is there a hole for a tweeter also?
