Another Axle Question

Hello Everyone,
thank you for your help in past posts. This question is a simple one. When I pulled the axle out to put the new one in, no fluid dripped from the transfer case. Is this strange? It was out for at least a minute before I got the new one in.

I just went out to take a look, the front of the transfer case is wet with fluid so maybe the seal has gone bad? I don't think that there's anything else around that could be leaking onto it
