Hello everyone, my names Gerald and I am from Asheville, NC. I found this site while doing research on upgrading my 96 Explorer XLT.
I have got to say that this is an awesome site. While going through some of the posts I found the threads on cleaning the MAP sensor and the IAC sensor, both of which I cleaned today. Made an immediate improvement in how my Explorer idled and accelerated. Though I too had some anxious moments when the IAC sensor I just cleaned caused an awfully load moaning sound to come from my air intake. Luckily it quieted down after I unplugged my battery and then plugged it back up to get the computer to relearn some of it's inputs. Everythings fine now.
My plan for my Explorer is to set it up as an expedition type vehicle, something along the lines of the Camel Trophy Land Rovers. To that end I will install a modest lift so that I can fit 31 10.50's. From searching this site looks like the PA792 2 inch bl kit is in my immediate future, followed by a locker in the rear. Maybe even install new rear springs and tweak the torsion bars just a little if I need to.
Well that's all for now. As I have questions I will try to post them in the appropriate forum. Thanks.
